Chain of Command for Reserve Unit

CHAIN OF COMMAND

Chain of command in the Sheriff’s Office will be maintained at all times by all Reserve Deputies. No jumping of the chain of command will be tolerated.

RESERVE COMMANDER:

The Reserve Commander is appointed by the Sheriff and reports directly to the Sheriff or Undersheriff. The Reserve Commander will be a full-time certified and commissioned deputy employed by the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office. The Reserve Commander will hold the rank of Lieutenant or Captain and has overall responsibility for the Reserve Unit.

ASSISTANT RESERVE COMMANDER:

The Assistant Reserve Commander assumes the duties of the Reserve Commander in his absence or as directed by the Sheriff or Undersheriff. The Assistant Reserve Commander should hold the rank of Sergeant or Lieutenant and will be a certified and commissioned deputy employed by the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.

RESERVE DEPUTY SQUAD LEADER:

Each Squad Leader will have the responsibility of supervising up to ten reserve deputies on their squad. The Squad Leader will be in charge of coordinating reserve activities and training; ensures that policies, procedures and programs are implemented in accordance with the Sheriff’s directives. Manages assigned Reserve Offices; maintain accurate records of training, meetings, scheduling and is responsible for getting the records to an appointed person at the Sheriff’s office.
