Office Assistant volunteers will provide administrative/clerical support to an assigned work unit within the Sheriff’s Office.

TITLE DESCRIPTION:

OFFICE ASSISTANT


PURPOSE: To provide support to or fill in for office staff.

DESCRIPTION: Volunteer will handle a variety of clerical and /or administrative functions, such as telephones, reception duties, data entry, filing, and related duties as specified. Locations for this assignment may include but are not limited to the Sheriff’s Office (main in Aztec NM), Volunteer in Police Services Program, Department Records Section, Criminal Investigations, the patrol substations and other police units as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to sit for long periods of time. Ability to deal with the public and law enforcement personnel professionally and effectively. Ability to answer telephones. Typing, filing skills, and basic computer skills needed, depending upon assignment. Patience and a desire to be helpful.

TRAINING: Volunteer will receive on-the-job training as needed.

TIME COMMITMENT: Eight (8) hours per month minimum; four (4) hours per week desirable. Hours will vary as needed, but are largely regular business hours.

TITLE DESCRIPTION:

MAIL RUN VOLUNTEER


PURPOSE: To assist with the pick-up and distribution of the Sheriff’s Office mail. Both internal and external.

DESCRIPTION: Volunteer will process the Sheriff’s Office’s mail through the Office’s mail room and transport to the County mail room, substations, and other necessary locations. Will pick up Sheriff’s Office mail from these locations and distribute to Sheriff’s Secretary.

QUALIFICATIONS: Strong organizational skills, valid driver’s license, good driving record, ability to communicate verbally and in writing; ability to lift thirty pounds.

TRAINING: Volunteer will receive on-the-job training as needed, and be provided with a vehicle to use while on Sheriff’s Office time for the mail run.

TIME COMMITMENT: Two (2) to Four (4) hours per week.
