San Juan County, NM – On 11/15/2011 at approximately 0830 hours, a Bloomfield man was awakened by at least three male subjects entering his residence located off of Newby Lane.
Joshua Mauzy (age 22) stated he was asleep in his bed when he heard someone walking in the hallway near his bedroom. “He said when he looked into the hallway he noticed at least three subjects walking rapidly towards his bedroom,” explained San Juan County Detective Mike Farni. “He said the subjects were armed with weapons and one male subject told him to look away and ordered him to put his face down into the bed.”
One of the male subjects then began cursing at him demanding money. “When Mauzy told him that he didn’t know what he was talking about he was hit in the back of the head with the weapon’” continued Farni. “Mauzy then turned his head to look at his attackers and he was hit with the weapon again on the side of his face.”
Mauzy said he told his attackers where he kept cash. He informed Detectives that the subjects took a significant amount of cash along with other items and left the residence.
“Evidence found at the scene indicates that a vehicle was parked at an oilfield site west of the residence,” explained Farni. “It also shows that three subjects walked down a hill to the back side of the residence.”
Mauzy suffered two lacerations during the attack but refused medical treatment. Mauzy was alone inside of the residence when the attack occurred. Mauzy was unable to identify his attackers and there are no suspects at this time.
“If anyone has information regarding this incident we are asking them to call in either to us or Crime Stoppers,” said Farni.
