Suspect Charged With Aggravated Battery

San Juan County, NM - On Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at approximately 1830 hours, San Juan County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a location near the river and just south of the Bisti Mustang Gas Station.  The call was in reference to a report of an assault.

According to Deputy Justin Rieker witnesses stated that Normal Simms (age 50 of Fruitland, NM) wanted Jeffrey Gleason (age 43 of Farmington) to “get out of his camp When Gleason did not move or attempt “the camp area” Simms began to beat him.

Simms hit Gleason then began stomping on his head.  “The witnesses said he then took a short break then continued to stomp on his head some more,” continued Rieker.  At one point he was heard to say “I am going to kill you”.

The suspect was found on the scene when deputies arrived he did have what appeared to be the victim’s blood on him  The victim was taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center with injuries to his head and face.  He is expected to make a full recover.

Simms was taken to the SJC Detention Center where he was charged with Aggravated Battery.
