Date: 05/13/2014
San Juan County, NM — On Saturday, May 10, 2014, at approximately 2014 hours, San Juan County Sheriff’s Deputies working the carnival at McGee Park were alerted to a fight. Deputies arrived in time to break up the altercation which involved several male juveniles.

As the juveniles dispersed, a 16 year-old Bloomfield boy realized he had been stabbed. He was transported to the San Juan County Regional Medical Center with a stab injury to his back and another to his leg. His injuries were later determined to be non-life threatening.

Through witness interviews, deputies were able to determine that a 17 year-old from Farmington, NM was the suspect. He was later located and admitted to the stabbing. The investigation revealed the involved parties had been feuding over a girl and their meeting at the carnival was coincidental. The juvenile suspect will be petitioned through the Juvenile Probation Office on the charge of Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

“We are very lucky that no one lost their life over this,” said Sheriff Ken Christesen.
