SJC Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Individual on Attempted Murder & Kidnapping Charges

On 02-18-13, at approximately 1341 hours, dispatch informed San Juan County Sheriff’s Deputies that a female wanted to receive a phone call. Deputies were told that the woman was worried about her brother, Cesar Enriquez, age 23 of Farmington NM, who was reportedly very angry and might hurt himself. She said he was not acting or thinking rationally. Enriquez was last seen leaving the area of County Road 5472 in a tan GMC Jimmy with a turquoise license plate.

At approximately 1414 hours, dispatch notified deputies that a female had arrived at the emergency room with stab wounds. It was determined that the two incidents were related. Deputies learned that the victim, Ana Marin-Solis, age 22 of Farmington, had sustained some lacerations including one on the right side of her neck and one on the inside of her right forearm. Initial reports were that the suspect might be heading to Albuquerque. However, information was obtained from the suspect’s sister that he was out in the hills south of County Road 5500.

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office helicopter was called out to start searching for the suspect’s vehicle. Pilot Rob Gross and Tactical Flight Officer (TFO) JJ Roberts located the vehicle, a pewter-colored Chevrolet Blazer, south of the area of County Road 5510 and County Road 5512. The suspect had driven to an area off of County Road 5512 by following a two-track road and then traveled up a wash.

TFO Roberts guided several ground units to the suspect’s location. SJC Deputies were led in behind the vehicle, while other SJC Deputies (including Deputy Joe Templeton) and New Mexico State Police officer Gerald Todacheene were led into an area just west of the suspect’s location. As all closed in on the suspect, he fled the vehicle on foot. Enriquez ran in a northwesterly direction and was taken into custody soon afterward by Deputy Templeton and Officer Todacheene.

The victim was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries. Detectives were called out to assist in the investigation.

enriquez cesar Enriquez was charged with: Attempted murder in the first degree; Kidnapping; Aggravated burglary; Interference with communications; Criminal damage to property of a household member ($1000 or less).
