San Juan County, NM – On September 6, 2013 at approximately 1838 hours, San Juan County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene of an accident. The accident occurred on Highway 550 northbound, near the intersection of County Road 5500 (close to the 148 mile marker) .
“Witnesses reported seeing a small Acura passenger car driving northbound on Hwy 550 at a high rate of speed,” said San Juan County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Alan Jamison. “They saw the car strike the rear of a trailer being towed by tractor trailer. Witnesses stated that the tractor trailer was slowing down and making a right turn onto an unmarked dirt road when it was struck by the car.”
The driver of the Acura died at the scene and his vehicle suffered extensive damage. He was identified as Marc Jordan, age 47 of Farmington, NM. Jordan had no other occupants in his vehicle at the time of the accident.
The driver of the tractor trailer received no injuries and his trailer suffered very minor body damage. At this time, Sheriff’s Office reconstructionists, are continuing to investigate the incident.
