Emergency PSA: Wildfire Smoke Advisory


UPDATE to PSA sent out at 8:15 am this morning:

The smoke in the air of San Juan County from the fires in Colorado may remain in the area for at least three days. San Juan Regional Medical Center recommends that individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions, limit physical activity and remain indoors, due to smoke in the area.

Original EMERGENCY PSA: 8:15 am

Due to a shift in winds from a northern to a southern direction, smoke from the Colorado fires is now highly visible in San Juan County. Individuals are asked NOT to call 911 reporting smoke at this time, 911 is being overwhelmed with calls of smoke in the air. Please only call 911 if you see an active fire OR if you can actually pinpoint a location of a fire in order for emergency crews to be dispatched to a scene. The smoke you see in the air at this time is from the Colorado fire.
