Deputies Respond to Single Vehicle Accident, One in Critical Condition


San Juan County, NM - On 12/5/12 at about 0701 hours Deputies were dispatched to 30th street near the intersection of Pinon Hills in Farmington NM. Dispatch stated that the call was for a one vehicle rollover with a passenger being ejected from the vehicle. Officers with Farmington Police Department arrived on scene about 0702 hours along with Farmington Fire and began to render aid.

San Juan County Deputies arrived on scene at about 0712 and began to conduct a crash investigation. Deputy Carlos Loomis investigated the scene and learned that Derrick Yazzie, age 36 of Farmington NM, was driving a 1996 Honda Civic passenger car eastbound on 30th Street from Pinon Hills. As Yazzie came around a left hand corner he lost control of the Civic running off the south side of the roadway and down an embankment. The vehicle then flipped several times, ejecting a 17-year-old male passenger.

Yazzie remained in the vehicle and was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center in stable condition, and has since been released. The 17-year-old passenger, was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated at this time, alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the accident.
