Deputies Respond to Report of “Shots Fired”

San Juan County, NMOn 04/29/2014 at approximately 0030 hours, deputies from the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to County Road 2645.  The reporting party advised hearing gunshots and screaming.

Upon arrival, deputies determined the location of the incident was a home on County Road 2645 (Aztec). “Deputies noticed the front door of the residence was damaged,” explained Sergeant Candice Montoya.   “There were two individuals on scene, a brother and sister.”  Another male sibling had fled the scene prior to deputies arrival.

The individual who fled the scene was identified as 28-year-old Nehemiah Redfeather.  “We were able to determine that Nehemiah had assaulted his brother, 26-year-old Cheyenne Redfeather, with a kitchen knife before he fled,” said Montoya.  “Cheyenne said that during the altercation, he became fearful enough to retrieve a 12-guage shotgun from the residence and then went outside.  He said Nehemiah pursued him until he (Cheyenne) fired 2 shots into the air.”

Cheyenne Redfeather was arrested on an out of state fugitive complaint for charges he faces out of Colorado. He was also charged/cited for negligent use of a firearm, a misdemeanor.

At the time of this release, Nehemiah Redfeather has not been located.  A warrant for the arrest of Nehemiah Redfeather has been issued for one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a 4th degree felony.
