Date: 08/06/2013

San Juan County, NM - On Sunday, August 4, 2013 at approximately 5:14 PM law enforcement officers were asked to contact 26 year-old Gabriel Henderson of Farmington, NM. Henderson was at the San Juan Regional Medical Center. Henderson reported that a man had pulled a gun and fired at him in the Farmington area.

Deputies contacted Henderson and subsequent investigation revealed that he and a 35 year-old male acquaintance met 53 year-old James Schultz of Farmington earlier in the day. They went to Schultz’s house on Auburn Avenue in Farmington to hang out. “Schultz eventually pulled a gun on Henderson and chased him off the property, firing rounds at him,” explained Detectives Lieutenant Cordell Tanner. Schultz then went back inside the residence and sexually assaulted Henderson’s male acquaintance at gun point.

When deputies responded to Schultz’s residence, he arrived in a vehicle and was found to be intoxicated. He was arrested for his 4th DWI while the investigation continued. “Search warrants were obtained and executed and firearms were located inside the residence,” said Tanner. “Schultz, a convicted felon, admitted to possessing the guns and using one to scare Henderson off the property.”

Detectives secured an arrest warrant for Schultz, charging him with Kidnapping (2nd degree felony), Criminal sexual penetration (2nd degree felony), Assault with intent to commit a violent felony (3rd degree felony), Aggravated assault (2 counts) (4th degree felony) and Felon in possession of a firearm (4th degree felony). He was booked into the San Juan County Detention Center on the no-bond warrant.
