San Juan County, NM - On October 30, 2013, at approximately 2016 hours, San Juan County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 103 mile marker on NM 371.  They were asked to respond to a call of a “battered subject”.

Upon arriving on-scene, Deputies found a 67 year-old female, from Fruitland NM, who had been beaten.  The victim had been at the Wal-Mart located on East Main Street in Farmington.  “She was approached by a Native American female in her mid 20′s to 30′s,” explained Detective Lieutenant Cordell Tanner.  “The woman asked the victim for a ride home, but was unable to give an exact address as to where she lived.”

As the two were in the vehicle approaching the 103 mile marker on NM 371, the female suspect asked the victim to pull over, so she could use the restroom.  “Upon pulling off the road the victim noticed another vehicle pull in behind her,” continued Tanner.  “As they came to a complete stop the female suspect pulled out a pistol and began beating the victim repeatedly with the butt of the pistol.”  A male then exited the second vehicle and together he and the female suspect continued to beat the victim.

“The victim informed deputies that the suspects tried unsuccessfully to get her out of her vehicle,” said Tanner.  “After beating the victim, the suspects took her purse, cell phone, and keys and fled the scene in the second vehicle.”  The victim managed to get to the highway and flag down passerby for help.

The victim was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. San Juan County Sheriff’s Deputies are currently investigating the armed robbery.  The suspects are described as a Native American male and female, both in their mid 20′s to 30′s.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Detective Connie Johnston at 505-334-6107, or Crime Stoppers (for those who wish to remain anonymous) at 505-334-TIPS (8477).
