Date:  5/30/2014 San Juan County, NM –Over the month of May, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office SET (Special Enforcement Team) deputies and Sex Offender Tracking unit investigated and arrested three local men for various sex crimes targeting children.

In early May the team learned of information that 25 year-old Jacob Granado of Bloomfield was viewing child pornography.  On Wednesday, May 21st, a search warrant was executed on his residence on 2nd Street in Bloomfield and multiple images were located on his computer devices.  During interviews Granado confessed to viewing and sharing child pornographic images on the Internet.  Because he lives only a block from the Bloomfield Boys and Girls Club, investigators utilized their FBI partners and had Granado polygraphed by their forensic polygrapher.  Granado failed questions related to him ever physically touching a child under the age of 16, excluding any childhood girlfriends.  After multiple attempts to get at the root of this, he denied doing so and refused to name any victims.

An arrest warrant was obtained, charging Granado with Sexual exploitation of children (by possession) a 4th degree felony and Sexual exploitation of children (distribution of material) 2 counts, a 3rd degree felony.  He was arrested and booked into the San Juan County Detention Center on the $50,000 cash only bond.  Any concerned residents of Bloomfield whose children have had unsupervised contact with Granado can contact the Sheriff’s Office detective division for further guidance.

In late 2013 deputies learned of information alleging that 29 year-old Mark Brown of Kirtland was distributing child pornography.  A search warrant was eventually executed on the residence on County Road 6686 and subsequent examinations of his electronic devices revealed child pornographic images.  During subsequent interviews Brown confessed to possessing and trading child pornography, saying he has been viewing the illicit material for several years.   An arrest warrant was obtained and on May 5th Brown was arrested and booked into the San Juan County Detention Center on the charges of Sexual exploitation of children (distribution), a 3rd degree felony (2 counts), and Sexual exploitation of children (by possession), a 4th degree felony .  He is being held on a $50,000 cash only warrant.

On Saturday, May 17th the team investigated thirty year-old Chase Gutierrez of Farmington for striking up conversation with a 14 year-old girl on the Internet.  He disclosed to the girl that he is married with children but fantasizes about getting young girls pregnant.  Over the course of two days Gutierrez exchanged an estimated 300 messages.  He expressed his desire to meet up, and he also sent video footage of him pleasuring himself.  On Monday, May 19th deputies arrested Gutierrez at a location that had arranged, to meet the girl for sex.  He was taken into custody upon arrival.  A search warrant was conducted on his vehicle and blankets and bedding were found inside.

During subsequent interviews Gutierrez admitted this is not the first time he has encountered strangers on the Internet that he later met with for sex.  He was booked into the San Juan County Detention Center on the charge of Child solicitation by electronic communication device, a 4th degree felony and Child solicitation by electronic communication device (and meets child), a 3rd degree felony.  His bond was set at $20,000.

“Protecting our children is our highest priority,” said Sheriff Ken Christesen.  “These types of predators are an imminent threat to our children and the community as a whole, and we will never relent in our pursuit to capture them.”

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office is a part of the New Mexico Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, whose mission is to locate, track, and capture Internet child sexual predators and Internet child pornographers in New Mexico.
