The Media Relations Office is the liaison between the Office of the Sheriff, the media and the public. The Media Relations Office receives thousands of calls and requests annually for interviews, feature articles, statistical information and community event participation. The office interacts daily with television, radio and print media to ensure the most up to date and reliable information is released to the public.
Public Records Law
The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office releases public information in compliance with the New Mexico Public Records Law. There are statutory exemptions to the law, including release of any information that could jeopardize an active investigation.
The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Office responds to everything from simple requests for basic information to sharing in-depth facts, figures, and statistics. The Sheriff’s Office is committed to sharing information through media interactions, its website, social media outlets like Facebook, Buzztown, Twitter, newsletters, and special projects. The PIO is also active in representing the Sheriff’s Office at numerous meetings, functions, and events.
The reason for this commitment is fundamental: citizens should have easy access to information about the mission and activities of their Sheriff’s Office. To that end, we are always receptive to questions, comments, and suggestions. Contact Beth Utley for additional information.
