San Juan County, NM -On August 10, 2014, just after 5:00 AM, San Juan County Sheriff’s deputies recognized 25 year-old Brittaney Escojeda at the fuel pumps of a convenience store at 5702 US 64. Aware that she had a felony warrant for her arrest, the deputies made contact with her. Escojeda concealed her identity and jumped back into her SUV with her two, unrestrained children; ages one and two. She sped away at a high rate of speed, tearing the still attached fuel hose from the fuel pump.

Deputies attempted to pull her over, but she increased her speeds to 90 mph. Concerned for the children’s safety, they terminated their pursuit. Approximately 3 miles down the road, they saw that she had crashed through a fenced business yard in an attempt to hide. As they approached, Escojeda began ramming the patrol vehicles. She evaded deputies a short distance before her vehicle became stuck. She then fled on foot, carrying her children. She was taken into custody without further incident. Responsible family members responded and took custody of the two children.

As deputies processed the scene, they located methamphetamine and cash strewn about the interior of her vehicle. During interviews, Escojeda admitted to the methamphetamine and admitted to having a substantial amount more in another vehicle. A search warrant was executed on that vehicle and more methamphetamine was recovered. In all, approximately 1.5 pounds of methamphetamine was recovered from Escojeda’s person and her two vehicles.
