MEDIA RELEASE: Vehicle Rollover Results in DUI.
Contact Person: Lt. Cordell Tanner
On Monday, September 1, 2014 just before midnight, a deputy with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office drove upon a rollover vehicle wreck in front of the San Juan County Detention Center (871 Andrea Drive). A Ford F250 had struck a power pole, shearing it from the base. The truck came to rest on top of the sparking electrical lines, which had started a fire in the nearby brush. Personnel with the Farmington utilities department responded and cut power to the lines. Fire personnel were then able to extricate the two occupants. A revolver and empty alcohol containers were located in and around the vehicle. Both occupants were transported to the San Juan Regional Medical Center where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Subsequent investigation showed the driver, 46 year-old Christina Culver of Farmington, had drifted off the shoulder of the road. She then over-corrected and struck the power pole. Culver was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and was booked into the San Juan County Detention Center on the charges of 1st Aggravated DWI, Careless driving and Negligent use of a deadly weapon. Her bond was set at $1,600.
Farmington police officers arrested Culver in March of this year for possession of methamphetamine. Coincidentally, she is scheduled to be sentenced in that case later today.
