On 01/10/2010, at approximately 0212 hrs, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Giant Gas Station located at #4151 U.S. 64, in the Kirtland, NM area regarding a robbery. The reporting party advised deputies that a male had entered the store wearing a black mask and a Dallas Cowboys pullover.
“After placing a Snickers bar on the counter the male told the reporting party that it was a “stick up” and told her to give him the money from the register,” said Deputy Alan Jamison, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office. “Once the male was given the money he exited the store and ran east.”
Upon the deputies arrival they were able to identify a set of shoe impressions leading up to the store and one set of shoe impressions leaving the store. “Due to the snow that had just fallen a short time before the incident we were able to track the suspect approximately one half mile to a trailer park located on CR6367,” continued Jamison. The impressions were found on the porch of two locations on that county road. Deputies made contact with the occupants of both residences and gained consent to search.
Detectives continued to actively investigate the incident throughout the morning resulting in the arrest of Thomas Donaldson. Donaldson is charged with robbery from the convenience store. He is also charged with shoplifting for taking the candy bar. Donaldson is charged with tampering with evidence.
Donaldson was transported and booked at the San Juan County Adult Detention Center for the above charges.
