Deputies Ken Weisheit & Chad Herrera
 
 
Detective Ken Weisheit

Deputy Ken Weisheit was born in Denver, Colorado, where he graduated from high school. After high school, heattended college and graduated with a degree in Economics. After working for a large IRA custodial company, Deputy Weisheit changed fields to pursue a career in law enforcement.


Deputy Weisheit attended Arapahoe Community College and completed the academy for law enforcement in 1995 and was president of his class. After graduating, he began his law enforcement career in September of 1995. In April of 1999, Deputy Weisheit was hired by the San Juan County Sheriff's Office as a patrol deputy. In 2000, he was assigned to the SJCSO Detective Division and is currently assigned to that division as a violent crimes investigator.

Deputy Weisheit spends a lot of time with his family and traveling as much as possible. Some of Ken's favorite pastimes are exploring the Glade with his family, riding his mountain bike, and going to the mountains.


Deputy Chad Herrera

Deputy Chad Herrera was born in Farmington, New Mexico, and raised in nearby Bloomfield, where he lived with his parents, twin brother, and younger sister. He was very active in area baseball from the early age of four through his high school years.

After graduating from high school, he attended San Juan College briefly and was hired by the San Juan County Adult Detention Center in February 2001, where he worked for approximately six years, ending his career at the facility with the rank of sergeant. In December 2006, Deputy Herrera was hired by the San Juan County Sheriff's Office as a patrol deputy. He graduated from the police academy held at San Juan College in June 2007.

Deputy Herrera has a long family history of law enforcement. His grandfather, Ben Herrera, was killed in the line of duty working for the Farmington Police Department; his great uncle was the Chief of Police in Santa Fe, New Mexico; a cousin was a deputy warden at the New Mexico State Penitentiary; an uncle is with the Juneau Police Department in Alaska; and his twin brother is currently employed with the Farmington Police Department. Deputy Herrera enjoys all aspects of his job as a patrol deputy, including DWI investigations. One of his long-term goals at the Sheriff's Office is to work with the DWI/Traffic Enforcement Division

Deputy Herrera and his wife of five years have one beautiful daughter and another one on the way. Chad enjoys spending time with his family & friends, fishing, hunting, playing softball, and staying active in his church.
