On Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at approximately 2150 hours San Juan County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to attempt to intercept one vehicle ramming another near the intersection of New Mexico
At approximately 6:00 this morning, San Juan County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene of a traffic accident. The accident occurred on US 64 near County Road 6800.
A white pickup truck was traveling eastbound on US 64 when it crossed the median and struck a black SUV traveling westbound. The driver of the pickup is a 40 year-old male. He suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to San Juan Regional Center.
The SUV had three occupants in it at the time of the accident. The driver of the SUV was a 37 year-old male who was pronounced dead at the scene. A 20 year-old female passenger was also pronounced dead at the scene. A 5 month-old female infant was also in the SUV and was flown to Albuquerque. The medical condition of the infant is now listed in critical but stable condition. Medical personnel are optimistic that she will survive her injuries.
The cause of the accident is still being investigated. Preliminary reports indicate that alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the accident.
