    Message From The Sheriff

Welcome to the San Juan County Sheriff's Office website. It is our hope that you will find this site interesting and informative and will use it as a means to provide us with feedback on the job we are doing. As an elected official, I view myself as a steward of this esteemed office, and I am committed to upholding the sacred trust the citizens of San Juan County have placed in me.

Few would argue that San Juan County is truly a great place to live, work, and raise a family. We are all fortunate to be a part of a community that is strengthened by strong values and enriched through natural and cultural diversity. Our mission at the Sheriff's Office is to enhance the quality of life in San Juan County by serving and protecting our community through excellent law enforcement services. We are proud of the services we provide and equally proud of the confidence the public has in us and our capabilities. Together we will make a difference, and in so doing preserve the quality of life we all enjoy, not only for ourselves, but for future generations as well.

About Our Agency

The San Juan County Sheriff's Office consists of 102 certified personnel, three animal control officers, and 31 civilians who provide a full spectrum of law enforcement services to the citizens of San Juan County, including law enforcement, civil process, prisoner extradition, court security, and animal control.

The Sheriff's Office budget for the fiscal year 2007-08 is $12,001,000.. Deputies patrol an area of about 5,500 square miles, much of which is rural and federally owned. With Bureau of Land Management land and land owned by the Navajo Nation, there is less than 6 percent of the land in San Juan County that is privately owned.

 

The San Juan County Sheriff's Office cooperates fully with the police departments in the surrounding cities of Aztec, Bloomfield and Farmington; as well as with the State Police and the Navajo Police. The New Mexico State Police have an investigator who shares office space and information with the San Juan County Sheriff's Office Detective Division, which aids in the solving of many crimes that both agencies are investigating.
